Healthy Snacks provided

Each morning, as part of our routine we provide the children with a healthy balanced snack, that we enjoy together. Wherever possible we will link these snacks to our planned activities, for example in a week where we are learning about the colour yellow we might offer: bananas, yellow peppers, pineapple, custard, corn cakes, cheese, crackers.

Sensory / Quiet Area

Paw Print Divider 2026

Our calm quiet room is adjacent to our main room and is a popular part of the nursery where children can use our sensory toys and equipment or simply relax and have some quiet time.

Individually Tailored Taster sessions

These are offered to suit your child's needs and are offered for free. For many children this might be the first time they have been away from home, or been in a setting environment. It is important that we work together to provide a space where they feel safe to explore and excited about their new Nursery school. They might need 2 or 3 or even more settling in sessions and we are willing to work with you to get this right for them. These are times where we welcome you and your child to come and stay and play together during our session time. You get to see us in action and it gives us a chance to get to know each other and start to build a trusting relationship alongside your child enjoying the safe feeling of you still being present so they can go off and explore.

Exceptional Outdoor Spaces

Paw Print Divider 2026

Our children LOVE our outside spaces and outdoor equipment. We are lucky to be able to use the extended school grounds, which include an enormous field for running and the sense of space and freedom, the school playground for our bikes and scooters and other PE style activities and a Forest School pond area for learning sessions. Our own outdoor spaces include an extensive big back garden which has: a large climb in sandpit, climbing frame and slides, tunnel, a mini hill to run up and down, mud kitchen, herbs planters to pick and use in their play, a Busy Beehive where the children can do drawing, dress up or sit and read books, a Quarry, fenced off area where the children are able to play with stones and gravel- filling buckets or moving them about the space with diggers, a Wild Garden with a Bug Cafe where we try to be plastic free, tuff trays set up with activities to coincide with our planning and a large grassed area for football and other fun games.

Qualified & Experienced Team

We are proud to say our team is well established and highly experienced, bringing together over 60 years of Early Years expertise. We are all passionate about Early Years and recognise just how precious these formative times are for our children. Even after achieving another Outstanding OFSTED judgement, with no recommendations, we continue to hold regular fortnightly staff meetings and maintain a positive, reflective attitude — always asking ourselves, “Where can we do better?”

Secure Access

At Tiggers Safeguarding is Paramount- visitors have to be buzzed in and seen on camera, at 2 different points before gaining access to our site. We also have cameras on site. We are situated at the back of Dunton Green Primary School and overlook the school field and playground, not just giving us a lovely outlook but this offers us extra safety and gives peace of mind.

Buggy store

As we take children in the term following their second birthday we do offer a place to leave your pram / buggy out of the rain.

Spacious cloakroom

All our children are supported and encouraged to learn independence in all areas of learning and this strongly applies to their personal skills. It is imperative wherever possible that children become able to independently dress and undress at the start and end of the day. We use our first room as a spacious cloakroom, giving our children plenty of time and space to learn these important life skills. We ask all our children to have a change of shoes for indoor wear. We suggest Crocs or slippers. This will give children a chance every session to change their shoes, again all leading to independence and the feeling of belonging as they leave their willies or shoes in their box and vice versa at home time.

Waterproof outdoor trousers provided

We have waterproof outdoor trousers which we offer to all our children on all those wet and cold days. It’s never the wrong weather, just the wrong clothing so we tuck them up cosy and warm. This in turn supports their enjoyment of the outdoors. At the other end of seasonal weather we also have many spare hats for sunny days and spare clothes and crocs whenever they are needed.

Video of the Setting and Staff

A video, sent to new starters, is a show round of the setting and of the staff to remind your child what they have enjoyed at their taster sessions. We give you this to share with your child in the weeks before their first term with us. We encourage you to watch it often to give your child a sense of familiar belonging.

Key Person

All our staff have a group of key children. As in settings in the UK, Ofsted guidance is that you are allocated with a Key Person at the very start of your journey. At Tiggers we believe we can all get along with everyone but we also have people that make us feel extra safe and settled, children are no different so we will take time to observe who your child is drawn to and wherever possible will swap their key person to suit their preference. Ofsted currently say that settings are not required to keep any progress reports or written documentation of progress, unless your child is on an individual plan. However at Tiggers we believe that keeping a record of your child’s progress and photos in their Big Book is a valuable use of our time. Your Key Person is the member of staff who you will have termly consultations with and who will make your child a wonderful keepsake book, known as their ‘Big Book’ full of photos from their weekly activities and write up reports on all their progress. Our children love to sit with us a pour over these books observing their own progress, for example ’Look I can ride the scooter now’.

Home Visits and Support at Meetings

We are happy to come and visit you and your child at home, this can support children when they are struggling to settle or going through a longer period of not attending for any reason. We will also accompany you to support you in any meetings you might have regarding your child’s progress.

Invitation to Reception Teachers

During your child’s final term with us we invite their reception teacher to come and join us at Tiggers. This gives your child the opportunity to become more familiar with who will be their new teacher and a chance to chat with them about their new school.

Routine and Timetable Throughout the Day

We all like to know what is happening throughout our day and young children are no different. In giving a clear routine children start to learn to anticipate and prepare for the next event, for example getting their shoes changed to go outside, independently choosing a book to look at after lunchtime etc.

Termly Planned Themes

That offer children new learning opportunities and are inline with the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) set out by the government for all settings to follow- these themes will include each of the 7 areas of learning and will include participation with our families.

Water Bottles

We offer all our children identical water bottles, one less thing you have to remember each day! Using the same looking bottle for all our children means they have to start looking out for their name. In conjunction with this we give each child a name card at snack time and during different activities, again giving them opportunities to recognise their own name and also their friends too.

Celebrations

We are always keen to include birthdays and celebration days that are an important part of our families cultural life. We will ask you for those days and acknowledge them in our planning.

Invitations to our Parents to Join Us

We hold several days that include you! The first being a Grandparent's day in October, to tie in with the National Grandparent's day. We encourage all our families to send in a Grandparent for an hour of fun in the afternoon before pick up time. This is a special time for our children to show them around the setting and for them to be included in a singsong. At Christmas time we hire the local Pavilion Hall where all our families gather for some festive fun and our children perform Christmas songs for you to enjoy. The staff are all there and provide a warm and welcoming space for you to get chatting with other parents, their families and loved ones. There are always some fun activities to keep everyone engaged: a photo booth, face painting, lucky dip, icing and eating a biscuit, guess the teacher and light refreshments are included here. In the weeks leading up to Mother's day and Father's day we invite you to come along to join us for a couple of hours to have a stay and play time with your child. You will be offered a festive snack and be festooned with gifts that your child has made for you! We hold a Summer Picnic afternoon, again to include all our families and their loved ones where you are invited to join us at Tiggers in our garden. It's a great time to catch up with everyone and have some summer time fun.

Leaver’s Party and Ceremony

For all our leavers, who are going onto big school at the end of the summer term we offer a party day. This includes a party in the morning for our children and a party lunch followed by an afternoon where you are able to come and be part of celebrating all their achievements. This always includes some singing, presentation of a memorable keepsake gift from Tiggers and a certificate that says how brilliantly they have done.

Private Facebook Parent’s Group

Separate from our public facebook page we have a private group. This is only open to our parents and you have to ask to join. Here we post our weekly photos so you get to see what your child has been doing that week. You can opt out of these at any time and we will always respect personal preference to social media.
